We assisted a client who had been accused of academic misconduct. Our client had been accused of paying for a ghost writing service to prepare his work.
On analysis of the documents it transpired that there had been a number of procedural irregularities, including the University repeatedly referring to out of date regulations.
Regarding the allegation itself it was noted that the University did not have evidence to sustain the allegation as any attempt to procure ghost writing services could have been committed by a number of students and thus there was nothing to link this to our client, who denied the allegation.
The University Misconduct Committee ultimately this argument. However, strangely, it then sought to reprimand our client on the basis that he may have left his work unattended so that it could be accessed by another student. This was not an allegation ever made before, nor was it a breach of the University’s misconduct procedures. We thus submitted an appeal accordingly. The appeal was upheld and the reprimand was removed. Our client has now graduated.
