We recently acted for a student in his application for university places via the UCAS system. Our client had been accepted for a place at his first choice University though had been deemed as an overseas student due to his place of birth and previous long term residence outside of the UK. Our client had family both within the UK and abroad and considered himself settled here as well as outside of the UK. He had submitted evidence and representations to the University himself to this effect. The University rejected his representations and our client sought assistance from us at this point.
After considering his personal circumstances, we made written representations to the University on why our client should be considered a home student presenting all of the evidence to them in a clear and simple manner. As a result, the University conceded that they had incorrectly classified our client as an overseas student and changed his fee status to a home student.
Our client has now accepted the offer for his first choice University and is looking forward to starting his course in the coming academic year and has saved a substantial amount in fees due to his change in status.
